Happy TwosDay!

We have finished our discussion on our country’s founding and founding documents. I believe your kids are developing an understanding of our amazing history, and that thrills me!

Remember that one of our TEKS is to know the location and names of all 50 states, it is a continuing goal for the year and one we are working on a little at a time.

Beginning tomorrow we will be learning about Westward Expansion. This is the period when the country really began to develop. Here is a list of topics we will discuss over the next week or two:

Who were the pioneers and what motivated them?

What was the Louisiana Purchase and why was it important?

Who were Lewis and Clark? Were they successful?

What were the causes and effects of The War of 1812?

What can you do at home? SO! Many! Movies! Old movies, new movies, TV series … oh my!

How the West Was Won – it is long, pace yourself!

The new series 1883 – It is not all kid-friendly, so watch it first and decide… but it is so good!

Even some of the old, old, old, westerns give a little insight as to what it was like in the old west. If you find something fantastic let me know!

ELA –

We will be doing skill practice with IXL, and some specific topics to prepare for STAAR. In addition to the basics like capitalization and punctuation practice, we will be working on using stronger verbs to revise sentences, using possessive and plural possessive nouns, and identifying parts of speech.
